MATERNAL CHILD HEALTH
According to the Human Development Report, Guatemala continues to be one of the countries with the greatest inequality in the world, which translates into large differences in the maternal deaths in the different departments of the country, due to the high rate of poverty, unemployment, and low educational levels. , difficult access to health services, cultural barriers, among others, which predominantly affect indigenous women in rural areas.
Maternal health refers to a woman's health during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Each stage should be a positive experience, ensuring that women and their babies reach their full potential for health and well-being.
Our Maternal and Child Health project, started in 2006, was designed to give mothers and their children the medical and educational support they need to survive the most vulnerable periods of pregnancy and early childhood.
Through the project, mothers receive medical care during their pregnancy and children receive free medical care from birth to two years of age.
Mothers participate monthly in workshops on health and balanced nutrition, during and after pregnancy, they prepare food with nutritious local products.
They also receive home visits from our staff to ensure the proper use of medical treatment.
